A Community of Mutual Care

One of the primary purposes of the church of Christ in the world is to be a community of mutual care. From the beginning of the formation of the church by the Lord Jesus Christ himself, He emphasized this aspect of the life of the Christian community with various commandments about love among the brethren, sacrificial service to one another, generosity toward those of the family of faith, as well as mutual teaching, admonition, and counsel so that each member could grow uniformly in faith and the whole body would be edified.
Jesus, the head of the body, set the example of love and care for the church at every moment of his life on earth to the point of giving his own life to save his people.
[...] Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25b)
The first-century church in the book of Acts was then marked by this mutual care and encouraged by the apostles in their letters to exercise love in a practical way in each local church.
And all who believed were together and had all things in common. (Acts 2:44)
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom (Colossians 3:16a)
It is crucial that pastors and church leaders in America and around the world focus on laying the biblical foundation for building and cultivating a culture of mutual care among brethren in their church families that will overflow and be seen by all who walk through the church doors and the surrounding community.
May we comprehend our biblical responsibility and joyfully accept the challenge of caring for one another in Christian love. May the Lord help us be “A Community of Care” for His glory and our good.
