From beginning to end, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, the Bible is about God. "In the beginning God..." is is not only the first, but perhaps the most fundamental phrase in the entire Bible. It clearly shows how God has been working from day one in creation to do what pleases Him and accomplish His purposes.
However, the beginning of the created universe is not the beginning of God's existence. He is from everlasting to everlasting, and before the mountains were brought forth or the world was formed, He is God (Psalm 90:2). God exists in eternity as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three in one and gives life to all that exists. The Almighty God in His infinite intelligence, creativity, and power designed and brought to existence the universe and everything in it, from the tiniest particle to the stars of the first magnitude, from the minuscule seed to the great trees, from the deepest ocean or the highest mountain, God brought forth and sustains everything that exists. As the creator of all things, He is the owner and sustainer of the universe, for
The earth is the Lord ’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein (Psalm 24:1).
It is more than clear why today's society seeks at all costs to eliminate the narrative of God's creation from the minds of children and even adults in every possible way because, in creation, God shows Himself unquestionably to be the supreme Lord of the world and no creature can compare to Him. If someone believes in God as the Creator of the universe, that person is closer to recognizing Him as Lord and worthy of being worshipped. And the more we perceive God’s greatness, the more we see our insignificance, weaknesses, and need for redemption. Faith in God as the Creator of the world, paves the way for faith in the Son of God, the Redeemer of the world. Just look around and you will see the effort made by many to remove God from the world and center its existence and preservation on man. This is nothing more than an evil attempt to take away God's glory and lordship over creation and prevent many from realizing their need to surrender to Him for the salvation of their souls.
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1) shows the Triune God in action before the world ever existed and, by the purpose of His will, bringing the universe into being out of nothing. Only God could do this! And it was His will that all things were created by His Son and that in Him all creation be held together (Col. 1:16-17). God created the world by His Word and that this same Word became flesh, dwelt among us, died and rose again, and offers salvation to all who believe in Him.
The incarnate Word of God is central to creation and will be central to the New Heavens and Earth when this heaven and earth of Gen. 1:1 pass away (Rev. 21:1). The Bible begins with God and ends with God, as John writes in the last verse of Scripture: “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all. Amen.” (Rev. 22:21)
